Chrissi Crete is a small island that lies about 15 kilometers south of Ierapetra, in the Libyan Sea. People also call it Gaidouronisi. The island stretches 7 kilometers long and 2 kilometers wide. Boats take visitors there during summer. The trip lasts around one hour.

Chrissi Island has no residents. Nature rules here. Soft golden sand covers the shores. The famous Belegrina Beach glows with pinkish tones. Tiny seashells mix with the sand and create the unique color. The sea stays shallow and clear. A rare cedar forest grows inland. The trees are old and twisted. Some stand over 10 meters tall. Others are over 200 years old. The forest smells fresh and earthy.

You can reach Chrissi Crete only by boat. Ferries leave from Ierapetra. They run from May to October. Most depart in the morning and return in the afternoon. Sometimes, small private boats make the trip too.

The island has no hotels or restaurants. So, bring what you need. That includes water, snacks, sunscreen, and a hat. Wear good shoes. The paths are rocky in places. Also, bring a bag for your trash. Leave the beach clean for the next visitor.

During peak season, you might find umbrellas and sunbeds for rent. Still, don’t count on full services. Chrissi remains wild. You won’t find toilets or shops. Visitors can only stay for the day. Overnight visits are not allowed
