Vlacherna Monastery Corfu is one of the most famous landmarks of the island. It sits on a small islet near the Kanoni area, just south of Corfu Town. The monastery connects to the mainland by a narrow causeway. It looks like it floats on the water, making it one of the most photographed spots on the island.

The monastery was built in the 17th century. It was active for many years, but today it serves mainly as a chapel. The whitewashed walls of the monastery stand out against the deep blue of the sea.

Getting to Vlacherna Monastery is easy. It is only about 4 kilometers from Corfu Town. Visitors can reach it by car, bus, or even on foot if you enjoy walking. There is parking nearby, close to the causeway. From there, it’s a short stroll to the islet.

The best time to visit is early in the morning or late in the afternoon. The lighting is perfect for photos, and the area feels quieter. The views are spectacular, especially at sunset. Visitors can also watch planes landing and taking off from the nearby airport.

Next to Vlacherna is Pontikonisi, or Mouse Island. Small boats leave regularly from the monastery to take visitors there. The ride is short and gives visitors a different but beautiful view of the area.

Entry to Vlacherna Monastery Corfu is free. It’s open most days, but hours can vary. The chapel inside is small but peaceful. Modest clothing is a good idea when entering the chapel.
