Sfendoni Cave in Zoniana, is located near the village of Zoniana in Crete’s Rethymno region. It stretches over 3,500 square meters and features a 270-meter-long walkway for visitors. This path leads through five of the cave’s eleven chambers, showcasing stunning stalactites, stalagmites, and other unique formations.

The cave has been in use since ancient times. Archaeological findings show that people used it for centuries. Pottery and artifacts from the Neolithic era have been discovered inside. These items suggest the cave was used periodically over time. 

The cave is open daily during the summer from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. In the winter, it operates on weekends from 10:30 AM to 2:30 PM. Guided tours are available in both Greek and English. These tours cover about 270 meters of the cave. The walkways inside are well-maintained, making the cave accessible for children, elderly visitors, and people with limited mobility.

When visiting the cave, wear sturdy shoes as the terrain can be uneven. The temperature inside is cool, around 16-17°C year-round. Be prepared for lower temperatures, especially in summer. Photography is allowed, but the lighting may affect picture quality. Always follow the rules provided by staff to help preserve the cave’s natural beauty.
