Moni Aegina lies just across from Perdika village on the island’s southwest coast. It sits on Moni Islet, a small, uninhabited island known for its natural beauty. Although small, the island offers both beach relaxation and hiking opportunities.
To reach Moni, visitors can take a short boat ride from Perdika. The journey takes only 10 minutes. During summer, boats leave regularly throughout the day. Since these boats often depart once full, waiting times remain short. Additionally, some boats leave from Aegina Town, but most routes start in Perdika.
After arriving, visitors find a beautiful sandy beach on the island’s eastern side. Here, the sea stays calm and clear. Since the water is shallow, families with children find it especially safe. Furthermore, a beach bar operates from late May to August, serving drinks and light snacks. Sunbeds and umbrellas are available for rent, making the beach comfortable for a full-day visit. However, some parts of the seabed are rocky, so water shoes help improve comfort.
Beyond the beach, Moni offers more to explore. A forested hiking trail leads up to the top of the island. At the summit, ruins of a World War II lookout post still stand. Although the hike is moderately difficult, the panoramic views reward the effort.
Moni’s wildlife is a highlight for sure. Deer, wild goats, and peacocks move freely around the island. Many animals approach visitors, expecting food. Still, feeding them might do more harm than good, so visitors should avoid doing so.
Moni Aegina provides only limited services. Aside from the beach bar, no shops or restaurants exist. Facilities like toilets or showers remain minimal. Because overnight stays are not allowed, everyone has to return to Aegina the same day. Therefore, bringing essentials such as snacks, sun protection, and drinking water is important.
