The Monastery of Mega Spileon is a historic and significant religious site situated in the Peloponnese region, near the town of Kalavryta.

The monastery was founded in the 4th century AD by two monks, Symeon and Theodore, who discovered a hidden cave or “spileon” where they sought solitude and spiritual contemplation.

The monastery’s buildings are built into the rock face of a steep cliff, creating a striking and unique sight.

The interior of the monastery is adorned with stunning Byzantine-style murals, depicting scenes from the Bible and the lives of saints.
