Melidoni Beach in Kythira lies on the southwest coast of the island, near the quiet village of Drimonas. It sits about 13 kilometers from Chora, the island’s main town. To reach it, follow a dirt road that winds through rocky hills and scenic countryside. Although the road can feel narrow and bumpy, most cars can reach the beach without difficulty. Upon arrival, visitors can park near the entrance and walk down a short path to the beach.

The coastline combines soft golden sand with smooth pebbles. The water stays shallow near the shore and deepens gradually, which makes it ideal for swimming and snorkeling.

Melidoni Beach offers a semi-organized experience. One section includes umbrellas and sunbeds available for rent. The other half remains free, allowing space for personal towels, umbrellas, or mats. Next to the organized section, a small canteen sells drinks, coffee, snacks, and sometimes cocktails.

During July and August, the beach gets crowded, especially in the late morning and early afternoon. To avoid the rush, many visitors arrive before 10:00 AM or after 5:00 PM.

A small islet called Chytra rises from the sea just offshore. This island adds beauty to the view and makes Melidoni feel even more unique.

Visitors often combine a trip to Melidoni with a stop at nearby beaches like Kaladi or Chalkos. Some also choose to arrive by boat from Kapsali, which offers a scenic and stress-free alternative to the road. Also, because the canteen may not open every day, bringing water and snacks helps avoid inconvenience.
