Litohoro Greece, or Litochoro, a scenic town in Macedonia, lies at the foot of Mount Olympus and just a few kilometers from the Aegean Sea. With an altitude of around 300 meters and a population of roughly 6,800 people, Litochoro combines mountain charm with coastal access.

To begin with, Litochoro offers a unique geographical advantage. On one side, majestic Mount Olympus towers above, while on the other, the Thermaic Gulf beckons with inviting beaches. This rare combination allows visitors to experience both alpine and seaside environments in a single day. The town serves as the main gateway to Mount Olympus National ParkGreece’s first national park and a designated UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Adventurers often use Litochoro as a starting point for climbing expeditions and hiking excursions.

For example, one of the most popular trails—the Enipeas Gorge hike—starts just outside the town. This scenic route follows the Enipeas River through lush pine forests, past waterfalls and wooden bridges, eventually leading to the Prionia trailhead and the summit paths of Olympus.

Moreover, Litochoro offers more than just mountain adventures. Just five kilometers to the east, visitors can relax on the beaches of Plaka and Skotina. These coastal villages offer excellent opportunities for swimming, sunbathing, and enjoying fresh seafood at traditional seaside tavernas.

Within the town itself, narrow cobblestone streets, traditional Macedonian houses, and local taverns create a warm, authentic atmosphere. The Church of Agios Nikolaos stands at the heart of Litochoro and often hosts community gatherings. Nearby, the small but informative folklore museum offers a glimpse into the region’s history and customs.

Getting to Litohoro Greece is also straightforward. The town sits just 22 kilometers from Katerini and about 90 kilometers from Thessaloniki. Travelers can arrive by car, train, or bus. Although the train station lies slightly outside town, taxis and local buses make it easy to reach the center.
