Chalkos Beach in Kythira is one of the most scenic beaches on the island. Located about 8 kilometers southeast of Chora, the island’s main town, it sits near the charming village of Kalamos

The road to Chalkos remains mostly paved, but the final section turns into a gravel path. Although this part feels narrow and bumpy, most vehicles can handle it without difficulty. Once there, a small parking area allows easy access to the beach.

The beach itself stretches in a small, sheltered bay surrounded by rocky cliffs. Because the bay protects it from the wind, the sea stays calm and clear. The water turns deep just a few steps from the shore, so swimmers can enjoy a refreshing dive. The shore features smooth, light-colored pebbles rather than sand.

Chalkos Beach provides a limited number of umbrellas and sunbeds, available for rent at a reasonable price. Since the beach gets busy in high season, early arrival helps secure a good spot. A small beach bar also operates during the summer. This casual cantina serves coffee, juices, and simple snacks, which adds convenience for longer stays.

During July and August, especially on weekends, crowds grow quickly. Arriving before 10:00 AM ensures a more relaxing experience. Alternatively, some visitors prefer the quiet vibe of late afternoons, when most people begin to leave.

After leaving the beach, many people stop in Kalamos. The village features a few tavernas, a mini-market, and traditional architecture. It’s a great place for lunch or a coffee break. Additionally, other top beaches like Kaladi, Melidoni, and Fyri Ammos lie within a short drive.
