Arki Island is located just west of Patmos. Despite its small size, it offers a peaceful escape from the busy tourist spots of larger islands. As a result, Arki attracts visitors who seek tranquility and natural beauty.

The landscape is rugged, with hills, rocky coves, and clear, turquoise waters. Most people explore Arki on foot or by bicycle, allowing them to fully appreciate the landscape. It is home to only a few permanent residents. It becomes livelier during the summer months however when tourists arrive.

Arki is known for its pristine beaches, which are mostly secluded. The beaches offer calm waters, perfect for swimming, snorkeling, and sunbathing. The most popular beach is Tiganakia. It is picturesque sandy beach located 2km southeast of the main port, or a 25 minute walk.

The island is not heavily developed, but it has a few small tavernas that serve fresh, local food. Traditional Greek dishes such as grilled fish, seafood, and local vegetables are common. Also, the island’s calm environment makes dining at these tavernas a relaxing experience.

The island can be explored with a day trip from Patmos as it takes approximately a 40 minute ferry ride to reach. This route is available 5 times weekly, as well as the one through Lipsi which takes around 90 minutes to reach Arki. Once on the island, getting around is easy, as the island is small and walking distances are short. For those feeling adventurous, there is also the option of a day trip to the beautiful Marathos Islet.

Overall, Arki Island is a peaceful retreat for nature lovers and those seeking a slower pace of life. Its unspoiled beauty, quiet beaches, and traditional village make it a perfect destination for a relaxing getaway.
