Akrotiri Lighthouse is one of Santorini’s most peaceful and scenic landmarks. It stands on the far southwestern edge of the island. Built in 1892 by a French company, it is one of the oldest lighthouses in Greece. Today, it still operates and serves as a guide for passing ships.

The lighthouse sits on a rocky cliff overlooking the deep blue Aegean Sea. Its white stone tower and square base contrast beautifully with the rugged coastline. The structure is not open to the public, but the outside area is accessible. 

Reaching the lighthouse is easy by car, ATV, or scooter. From Fira, the drive takes about 30 minutes. The road is paved and in good condition. Buses do not go directly to the lighthouse, so private transport is the best option. Parking is free but limited, especially close to sunset.

There are no shops, cafes, or restrooms at the site. It’s best to bring water, snacks, and anything else needed. Comfortable shoes are also helpful, since the terrain is uneven near the cliffs. Wind can be strong, so a light jacket is a good idea even in summer.

On the way to the lighthouse, visitors can stop at the nearby village of Akrotiri. This area is known for its archaeological site and the Red Beach. It’s a good idea to combine all three into one trip for a full afternoon of exploring.
