The Old Fortress comprises a well-preserved Venetian fortress that is located at the heart of the island of Corfu. It was built in the 16th century to protect the city from pirate attacks and served as a military garrison by various ruling powers throughout the centuries. 

The fortress is a remarkable specimen of Venetian fortification architecture and features two parts – the citadel and outer walls.
