Itanos Beach Crete lies on the northeastern coast of the Lasithi region, just a few kilometers north of the famous Vai Palm Beach. While Vai often draws large crowds, Itanos remains quiet and peaceful. 

The beach features a mix of soft sand and small pebbles. The water stays clear and calm throughout most of the year. As a result, the beach offers excellent conditions for swimming and snorkeling. 

In addition to natural beauty, Itanos Beach Crete offers historical value. Just behind the beach, the ruins of ancient Itanos stretch across the hillside. Visitors can walk freely through the area. They can view the remains of walls, temples, and early Christian churches. 

Unlike many popular beaches in Crete, Itanos does not offer organized services. There are no sunbeds, umbrellas, beach bars, or restrooms. Therefore, visitors must come prepared. Bringing water, snacks, and sun protection is essential. Also, the beach is popular among nudists, so visitors should keep that in mind especially if they are bringing children with them.

Reaching Itanos Beach is fairly easy. The drive from the town of Sitia takes about 40 minutes. The road remains paved and in good condition. Clear signs point the way, especially near Vai. A small parking area sits near the beach, allowing easy access on foot. Since public transportation does not reach this area, travelers usually rent a car.

Although the beach stays quiet, it still offers a full day of exploration. Some choose to combine a visit to Itanos with a stop at the neighboring Erimoupolis Beach or nearby Toplou Monastery.
