Xyla Beach in Kea lies on the island’s northwest coast, about 4.5 kilometers from the port of Korissia and 12 kilometers from the island’s capital, Ioulida. Although the beach feels remote, it remains relatively easy to reach by car. 

First, travelers follow a paved road through Marades and Melissaki. Then, they continue on a narrow dirt road for the last stretch. While this part requires slow and careful driving, it offers beautiful views of the coastline.

The beach combines golden sand with small, smooth pebbles. It stretches along a wide bay, backed by dry hills and open sky. The sea begins shallow but deepens steadily, making it perfect for swimming. On calm days, the water stays clear and glassy. However, during strong northern winds (meltemi), waves may rise, so visitors often check the forecast before setting out.

Xyla Beach offers a balance between basic comfort and untouched nature. In the central area, a few sunbeds and straw umbrellas are available for rent. These often include extras like bottled water and towels for an additional fee. Nevertheless, the majority of the beach remains unorganized. Therefore, many visitors bring their own towels, umbrellas, and snacks.

In terms of facilities, options remain limited. A small hut near the center sells soft drinks and simple snacks, but no full taverna or restaurant operates on the beach. Because of this, most people pack food, water, and sun protection before arriving. No public restrooms or showers exist, so timing bathroom breaks in nearby towns becomes essential.

Even during peak summer, the beach rarely feels crowded. Some visitors enjoy the far ends of the beach for extra privacy. Additionally, a small hidden cove sits just beyond the rocks on the left side. It can be reached by swimming or climbing over the low ridge.

Despite the rough approach, the beach rewards with clear waters, quiet surroundings, and a simple, Cycladic beauty. Xyla Beach suits travelers who enjoy nature, peaceful settings, and a break from crowded resort areas.
