Triopetra is a stunning beach on the southern coast of Crete. It sits in the Rethymno region, about 50 kilometers from Rethymno Town. 

The name “Triopetra” means “Three Rocks” in Greek. It comes from the three massive rock formations rising from the sea at the beach’s western end. These impressive rocks create a striking contrast with the blue waters and add to the area’s wild beauty.

Triopetra consists of two beaches. The larger one, known as Main Triopetra, has fine sand, pebbles, and deep, clean waters. It is partly organized with sunbeds, umbrellas, and a few tavernas serving fresh seafood and traditional Cretan dishes. The smaller beach, called Small Triopetra or Koumado, is more secluded. It offers a quiet, natural setting, perfect for relaxation.

The sea is usually calm, but occasional strong winds create waves, making it great for windsurfing. Snorkeling is also popular, as the waters are clear and full of marine life. The surrounding landscape is rugged and untouched. Rolling hills and olive groves stretch toward the horizon, giving visitors a sense of solitude and freedom. The sunsets here are breathtaking, as the sun dips into the sea, casting golden and pink hues over the beach.

Access to Triopetra is easy by car, with a well-maintained road leading to the beach. Parking is available near both sections. Despite its beauty, the beach remains less crowded than other popular Cretan destinations, even in summer.
