Sykamia Beach in Kea lies on the northeastern coast of the island, around 11 kilometers from Ioulida. Although it is not far from the island’s main town, the beach feels remote and untouched.

To reach the beach, travelers must follow a dirt road starting near the village of Kalamos. The road winds through rocky hills and dry fields. As the route progresses, the surface becomes uneven. Therefore, drivers must proceed slowly and cautiously. Cars with low clearance can manage the drive, but 4×4 vehicles handle it more comfortably. After about 20 minutes, the road ends near the beach.

Once visitors arrive, they see a wide bay with golden sand and patches of pebbles near the shoreline. The sea stays crystal clear, with calm, shallow waters near the shore. These conditions make swimming and snorkeling very enjoyable.

Unlike many popular beaches, Sykamia provides no organized services. You won’t find sunbeds, umbrellas, or a beach bar here. However, a few tamarisk trees grow along the beach and offer limited natural shade. As a result, most visitors bring their own umbrellas, mats, and supplies. Moreover, there is a traditional taverna located just before the beach entrance. It serves simple Greek dishes and provides restrooms for customers.

Because of the effort required to reach the beach, large crowds rarely gather here. Even in the high summer season, the beach stays calm and uncrowded. Couples, nature lovers, and photographers often visit for the peaceful setting.

For those planning a longer stay, the nearby taverna offers a convenient spot for lunch or cold drinks. However, since there are no shops or beach vendors nearby, visitors should bring enough water and snacks.

In summary, Sykamia Beach combines natural beauty, privacy, and clean waters. Although the road presents a challenge, the reward is a quiet and scenic beach free from crowds.
