Skylou Beach in Kythnos stretches along the southeastern coast of the island, a few kilometers outside Kanala. Although smaller than other beaches on the island, it offers rare seclusion and natural beauty. Soft sand blends with white pebbles, creating a gentle and clean shoreline. Since the sea remains calm and the seabed slopes gradually, it suits both confident and cautious swimmers.
Unlike more developed beaches, Skylou remains unorganized. It offers no sunbeds, umbrellas, restrooms, or nearby tavernas. Therefore, visitors must come prepared. They usually bring their own supplies, including water, snacks, and shade. Although the area includes a few scattered reeds and small trees near the seasonal stream, these offer limited shelter. For this reason, an umbrella or sun hat becomes essential during hot days.
To reach Skylou Beach by land, travelers first drive from Merichas to Kanala. Shortly after leaving Kanala, they follow a dirt road that leads toward the coast. The road ends at a clearing where visitors can park. From there, a narrow footpath with a short descent and steps leads directly to the beach. Although the walk takes only a few minutes, proper footwear helps on the rocky path.
Alternatively, many visitors arrive by boat. Private boat tours from Loutra, Agios Stefanos, or Panagia Kanala frequently include Skylou in their itinerary. Boats anchor just offshore, allowing passengers to swim or relax on the quiet beach.
