Mount Athos, also known as the Holy Mountain, is an autonomous monastic state consisting of 20 Orthodox monasteries.
This sacred mountain has been a place of pilgrimage for centuries, attracting devotees from all over the world.
Entering Mount Athos is only possible through ferry, which is also a convenient way to navigate around the monasteries since the only vehicles allowed inside are with specific license plates (starting with AO for Agion Oros).
Visiting Mount Athos is not an easy task, as it is strictly regulated and open only to male visitors. A permit is required, a limited number of daily visitors are allowed and accommodation cannot last more than four nights.
However, the journey is well worth it for those who are fortunate enough to experience the spiritual energy that emanates from this sacred mountain.
