Kalives Crete, also spelled Kalyves, is located on the north coast of the island. It lies about 20 kilometers east of Chania, at the entrance of Souda Bay. The beach sits near the center of the Apokoronas region, surrounded by olive groves and traditional villages. 

The beach stretches along the edge of Kalives village. It is divided by two small rivers—Xidas and Kiliaris. These rivers bring fresh water into the sea and create a unique environment. A small bridge connects the two main sections of the beach. The sand is soft and golden. The sea is shallow, warm, and generally calm. This makes the beach very safe for families with children. 

Kalives Beach is well-organized. Sunbeds and umbrellas are available for rent. There are showers, changing cabins, and restrooms. Lifeguards are on duty during the summer months. The beach holds a Blue Flag, which means high standards of cleanliness and safety. 

The village of Kalives is lively yet traditional. Local tavernas and cafés line the seafront, serving Cretan dishes, fresh seafood, and cold drinks. Many of these spots offer views of the sea and sunsets. Small shops, bakeries, and markets are also nearby. Ancient Aptera, a historic site with ruins and a Venetian fortress, is only 5 kilometers away. 

Accommodation is easy to find. Options include family-run guesthouses, seaside hotels, and holiday apartments. Most are within walking distance of the beach and local amenities. 

Getting to Kalives is simple. Buses run regularly from Chania, about every 20 to 40 minutes. Driving from Chania takes about 25 minutes. The village is also around 28 kilometers from Chania airport.
