Agios Nikolaos Crete is a beautiful town on the northeast coast of the island and capital of the Lassithi prefecture. It sits along the Mirabello Bay, about 65 kilometers east of Heraklion. The town is best known for Lake Voulismeni, a deep, circular lake in the center of town. According to legend, the goddess Athena bathed in its waters.
