Lissos Beach Crete lies on the island’s remote southern coast, just west of the small coastal village of Sougia and about 80 km away from Chania.

Unlike popular resort beaches, Lissos features smooth pebbles. The beach stretches along a narrow cove, where turquoise waters remain clear and inviting. In addition, large coastal rocks provide natural shade during midday hours. Because the sea deepens quickly, swimmers should remain cautious.

Lissos Beach Crete does not offer tourist facilities. There are no sunbeds, umbrellas, food stalls, or lifeguards. Therefore, visitors must bring everything they need—including water, snacks, sunscreen, and appropriate footwear.

Most visitors reach Lissos from Sougia either by hiking or by boat. The most popular hiking trail starts from Sougia and takes approximately 90 minutes each way. Along the path, hikers pass through pine forests, small gorges, and ancient ruins, making the journey itself part of the adventure.

Beyond the shoreline, visitors can explore the ancient city of Lissos. Ruins of Roman baths, mosaic floors, cisterns, and the Temple of Asclepius lie scattered just behind the beach.

Spring and autumn provide ideal weather for both hiking and swimming. During these seasons, the trail stays cooler and less crowded. While summer also offers great swimming conditions, visitors should begin hikes early in the day to avoid excessive heat.
