Ombros Gialos Beach in Crete, also known as Omprogialos, lies on the northeast coast of the Apokoronas region in Chania. It sits about 25 km from Chania Town and 13 km from the traditional village of Vamos.

Unlike many popular beaches in Crete, Ombros Gialos does not have sand. Instead, smooth limestone rocks form flat platforms that stretch right to the sea. These rock shelves provide natural spots for sunbathing and easy access to the water. The sea becomes deep only a few meters from shore, which makes it perfect for swimming and snorkeling. 

Because the beach stays unorganized, it does not offer sunbeds, umbrellas, or public restrooms. Visitors must bring their own supplies, including drinking water, snacks, towels, and shade if needed.

Access to the beach is relatively straightforward. A narrow paved road leads directly from the nearby villages to a small parking area near the shoreline. While no buses travel this route, the drive provides scenic views of olive groves, cliffs, and open sea. Drivers should stay cautious, especially on the last downhill section, which has sharp turns. 

Next to the shore, a small family-run taverna offers fresh seafood and traditional Cretan dishes. It remains open during the summer and early fall months.

Due to the rocky terrain and deep water, the beach may not suit families with young children. However, nature lovers, couples, and photographers often include Ombros Gialos Beach in their travel plans. The beach’s quiet atmosphere provides a refreshing contrast to crowded resort areas.
