Platanes Beach in Adelianos Kampos, Crete lies on the island’s north coast, about 5 kilometers east of Rethymno Town. It forms part of the long, sandy shoreline of Rethymno Bay. 

The beach features soft golden sand and clear, shallow waters. Therefore, it suits swimmers of all ages. During most days, the sea stays calm. However, in summer, Meltemi winds can bring moderate waves. 

Platanes stands out for its convenient amenities. Visitors can rent sunbeds and umbrellas at many points along the beach. Moreover, most areas include showers, toilets, and changing cabins. Beach bars and seaside tavernas line the waterfront, offering drinks, snacks, and full meals. 

For those who enjoy water sports, Platanes Beach provides plenty of options. Jet skiing, parasailing, banana boat rides, paddleboarding, and kayaking are all available. Operators supply equipment and short training sessions. 

Getting to Platanes Beach is simple. Buses run regularly from Rethymno’s city center, taking about 10 minutes. Taxis are available as well, and the road remains in good condition for drivers. Free and paid parking spots exist near the beach and along the main road.

From May through August, sea turtles (Caretta caretta) nest along this beach. Volunteers and conservation groups place signs around nesting areas. For this reason, visitors should avoid marked zones and stay off the beach after dark when nests need protection.
