Ammoudi Beach Crete, sits along the southern coast of Lassithi between Makrigialos and Goudouras. It lies around 66 kilometers southeast of Agios Nikolaos and 29 kilometers east of Ierapetra.
The beach features soft golden sand and calm, clear waters. You can swim safely and enjoy snorkeling near the rocks. These trees create a cool place to relax during the heat of the day. The bay stays sheltered from strong winds, so the sea is usually smooth.
Locals also call it “Dragon’s Cave” beach. A large cave, just 500 meters north, inspired the name. You can hike to the cave for a quick adventure. The short path gives you a chance to explore the natural surroundings.
You’ll find a beach bar there, as well as a small taverna nearby. It serves traditional Cretan dishes and cold drinks. You can take a break from the sun and enjoy lunch by the sea. Sunbeds and umbrellas are available to rent, offering comfort and shade. However, no lifeguard watches the beach, so always swim with care.
Getting to Ammoudi is easy by car. The road between Makrigialos and Goudouras leads straight there. Look for signs pointing to the Dragon’s Cave taverna. A dirt road leads to a parking area near the beach. You can walk the short path from your car to the water in just a few minutes.
Ammoudi Beach Crete suits couples, solo travelers, and families who enjoy nature. It offers a mix of comfort and wild charm. The area remains unspoiled, and that’s part of its beauty.
